What is Public Metaverse?
In the public metaverse, commonly referred to as a virtual world, people can engage in shared interactions with virtual things and each other. Although this technology has been in development for some time, the general public is only now beginning to have more access to it. The Seoul Metropolitan Government’s brave action in opening a public metaverse shows its dedication to remaining at the cutting edge of innovation and technology.
Benefits of Public Metaverse
Users can engage with one another in a virtual setting independent of their physical location, which is one of the main advantages of the public metaverse. This has the ability to reduce barriers and bring people from different countries together. The public metaverse can also be utilized for a wide range of purposes, including social engagement, education, and training.
Metaverse Tap By the Seoul Metropolitan Government
The road to the full-fledged Metaverse service provided by Seoul Metropolitan Government is long. The regional government is making a sizable financial investment in a platform for immersive public service.
The Ministry of Science and Information Communications Technology of South Korea committed over 2.6 trillion won ($2.2 billion) in September to the development of hyperconnectivity technologies for Metaverse solutions.
The hyperconnectivity strategy aims to spread numerous cutting-edge technologies throughout the area, including blockchain, the Metaverse, and cloud computing.
In order to improve local markets including healthcare, manufacturing, education, and public services, the region is attempting to use immersive extended reality (XR) solutions.
The South Korean public now has access to an immersive support centre that aids in the introduction of immersive technologies for interested people at all levels as part of the region’s Metaverse Seoul initiative.
Furthermore, by 2023, test beds for immersive solutions would be expanded, according to a statement made at the time by South Korea’s Ministry of Science and Information Communications Technology. Additionally, the Ministry will assist regional businesses in creating metaverse platforms until 2025.
The region’s government can update cybersecurity and regulatory IT systems thanks to the hyperconnectivity plan in order to take advantage of new immersive and Metaverse services that South Korean officials will widely roll out.
In July 2022, Seoul used XR technologies to highlight ancient customs from the Joseon Dynasty.
Using augmented reality (AR) visualization and real-world placement, the immersive experience recreates Joseon-era (1392–1910) munition offices as digital twins, which visitors may observe via a smartphone.
The opening of a public metaverse by the Seoul Metropolitan Government is a risky move that shows their dedication to remaining at the cutting edge of innovation and technology. It will be interesting to observe how it develops and changes over the next several years because it has the potential to alter how we connect and communicate in the digital world.
